Video has emerged of one of Donald Trump’s chief foes slamming his administration’s Justice Department (DOJ) as “corrupted” and diminishing the rule of law.

Jack Smith held the investigation, under the Biden administration, into potential federal crimes committed by Mr Trump including alleged attempts to nullify the 2020 election – which he lost.

At an April event now coming to light, Mr Smith said the DOJ was being run by people loyal to Mr Trump rather the rule of law.

“We have a Department of Justice today that targets people for criminal prosecution simply because the president doesn’t like them”.

The White House has frequently accused Mr Smith of being a tool of the Biden administration to target Mr Trump.

Meanwhile, there are signals that maybe, possibly, there could be some movement on a peace deal with Iran.

Saudi Arabian state TV said on Thursday that “intensive negotiations” were taking place to “ease the blockade” buy the US of the Strait of Hormuz which would allow “gradual reopening” of the vital waterway.

Mr Trump has touted some kind of agreement with Tehran could be imminent even as he threatens to recommence bombing.

In the Vatican, US Secretary of State Maro Rubio is meeting Pope Leo after the White House and the US pontiff spectacularly fell out over Iran.
