UAE announces $1b AI investment to boost African AI sector

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced a significant $1 billion investment aimed at accelerating AI-enabled services and expanding its infrastructure across Africa.

UAE Minister of State Saeed bin Mubarak Al Hajeri announced the AI for development programs at the G20 leaders summit in Johannesburg, aiming to bring AI technology to areas such as education, healthcare, and climate adaptation.

The prime motive of recent development is to save the future of humanity, foster innovation to boost efficiency, drive major breakthroughs to enhance productivity, and maintain a strong commitment to developing inclusive AI for the benefit of everyone.

It has been observed that UAE is one of the largest foreign investors in Africa, and its bilateral trade in 2024 reached approximately $107 billion, a significant increase of 28% from the previous year.

The UAE plans to use the investment to build the world’s largest data-hub in the country with US technology, cementing its role as one of the largest foreign investors in global AI development.

Additionally, it will bring several benefits across sectors by focusing on accelerating digital transformation and managing socioeconomic issues.
