Two people have been rushed to hospital after a gas bottle explosion at a Tweed Heads caravan park during an Easter Sunday BBQ.
The explosion happened at the BIG4 caravan park on Holden Street about 5.30pm.
A 58-year-old man and 50-year-old woman were taken to hospital with significant burns.
An Ambulance NSW spokesperson said the woman was flown to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where she remains in a stable but serious condition.
The man was taken by ambulance to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition with burns to his arms and the back of his head.
“We responded with multiple crews including the Westpac helicopter,” authorities said.
Investigators believe the incident was an accident, caused by a gas bottle incorrectly connected to the barbecue.
“The explosion is not being treated as suspicious,” a police spokesperson said.
“No further police action will be taken.”
