A measles alert has been issued for the Gold Coast area after two cases were confirmed to have been contracted by people overseas and then brought home to Australia.

Gold Coast Health listed 11 different “exposure sites” where people may have inadvertently been exposed to the virus, which can cause fever, coughing, blotchy rashes, runny noses and sore eyes.

Locations and times of concern include the Gold Coast Hillsong Church on March 8 between 5.15pm and 8.30pm, the Robina Town Centre on March 9 between 4.30pm and 6.00pm and ALDI Robina on March 10 between 3pm and 4pm.

Most of the exposure sites are located within Robina, with timings found between March 7 and March 22, but two exceptions include the RACV Royal Pines Resort in Benowa and the Mudgee Bah Espresso Cafe in Mudgeeraba.

“Anyone who was in these areas, on these dates, should be alert for symptoms of measles for up to three weeks from the exposure date,” a Gold Coast Health spokesman said.
