Liverpool have confirmed that Mohamed Salah will leave the club at the end of the season.

The Egyptian’s shock exit was revealed on social media leaving fans stunned.

Salah, 33, signed for Liverpool in 2017 from Serie A side Roma and has gone on to become one of the club’s best-ever players.

The forward has scored an astonishing 255 goals in 435 appearances in all competitions.

However, he now only has a handful of chances to add to his tally before his time at Anfield comes to an end.

A statement read: “Mohamed Salah is to bring the curtain down on his illustrious career with Liverpool Football Club at the end of the 2025-26 season.

“The time to fully celebrate his legacy and achievements will follow later in the year when he bids farewell to Anfield.”

It has been revealed that the decision to announce the decision now is partly down to Salah himself.

The two-time Premier League winner wanted to tell fans of the decision so it would give him time to show his gratitude.

A further statement added: “The forward has reached an agreement with the Reds that will see him close a remarkable nine-year chapter at Anfield.

“Salah expressed his wish to make this announcement to the supporters at the earliest possible opportunity to provide transparency about his future due to his respect and gratitude for them.

“With plenty still left to play for this season, Salah is firmly focused on trying to achieve the best possible finish to the campaign for Liverpool and, therefore, the time to fully celebrate his legacy and achievements will follow later in the year when he bids farewell to Anfield.”

Fans have been left stunned by the announcement as they reacted on social media.

One posted: “We have to win a trophy at all costs man, he cannot leave like this.”

A second wrote: “I’m in tears man.”

A third commented: “End of an era. A true legend.”

A fourth said: “End of an era. Thanks for all the amazing memories. We love you Mo.”

Another added: “Even though I expected this to happen, it still feels surreal, my GOAT.”

Salah was signed for the club by iconic manager Jurgen Klopp after just one season with Roma.

In his debut campaign, he set the record for the most goals in a 38-game Premier League season with 32.

He won the league twice at the club as well as the Champions League title in 2019.

Salah also picked up winners’ medals in the FA Cup and League Cup.

The attacker’s prolific record in front of goal has seen him win the Prem golden boot on four occasions and climb to third in the Reds’ all-time scoring list.

Salah has previously been linked with an exit from the club with interest mounting from the Saudi Pro League.

The buzz around him ended with a two-year contract extension being signed in April 2025.
