Two men have been accused of lighting fire to a family home that injured a woman and three children just weeks before Christmas.

A fire tore through a house on Westfield St in Maddington, in Perth’s southeast, about 4.30am on December 10 last year.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, which destroyed the property, later finding the suspicious fire likely started in the carport area.

CCTV footage revealed a person was near the home about the time of the fire.

A woman and three children were injured during the blaze and rushed to hospital with smoke inhalation.

Neighbour Cory Harsant told 7News that he saw the mum and her three boys from his backyard and broke down the fence to save them.

“So went around to my back fence, which joins onto theirs, and they were there,” he said.

“I was like, ‘just get over the fence’ and I broke the fence down and got them over.”

Police have now charged a 36-year-old Wanneroo man and a 28-year-old Greenwood man with criminal damage by fire and endanger life, health or safety of a person.

The Wanneroo man is due to face the Armadale Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The Greenwood man will face court next week.
