Residents in the regional city of Horsham have been rocked after a shocking police investigation found cameras hidden in the local town hall change rooms.

Victoria Police seized several electronic devices and executed two search warrants at the beginning of the month following reports “hidden cameras were placed in the change rooms of the local town hall on a number of occasions”.

The evidence seized for forensic examination included mobile phones, computers and storage devices.

Police said the number of times and for how long the hidden camera’s were present within Horsham Town Hall’s change rooms “remain unclear however it is believed electronic devices have been utilised over a period of time.”

Horsham Rural City Council released a statement on late Tuesday afternoon confirming the media reports of the security breach.

“We recognise the distress and concern this situation may be causing for our staff and members of our community, particularly anyone who has performed at, attended, or worked at Horsham Town Hall,” Horsham Rural City Council Mayor Brian Klowss said.

“We extend our sincere apologies to those people.”

Earlier, On Monday the council announced as an added “precautionary measure, a number of scheduled shows and events at Horsham Town Hall have been cancelled and/or will be rescheduled.”

So far, one person has been identified as a person of interest relating to the alleged serious allegations breaching Horsham locals privacy.

They have yet to be interviewed by Victoria Police.

Members of the public with any information, or locals who used the town hall change rooms during performances are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Horsham Rural City Council was approached for further comment.

The council said it would “continue to share confirmed information with the community as it becomes available.”

“Horsham Town Hall is a place where our community comes together, and we want everyone to feel safeand respected. Our priority is the wellbeing of those who may be affected,” Mr Klowss said.
