A grandmother who died after a car ploughed into the Rivervale home she was staying at just before midnight on Friday has been described as “a truly remarkable woman who was full of life, kindness, warmth, and unconditional love.”
Bishnu Kumari Gurung, also known as Himali, was inside the Alexander Road rental property sleeping when a yellow Ford Falcon sedan was travelling north in an easterly direction at 11.40pm, police said.
The vehicle then allegedly “left the roadway and crashed into a house”, killing the 53-year-old who died at the scene from her injuries.
Multiple police and ambulances attended the scene where the home was cordoned off.
Officers from the Major Crash Investigation Section investigated the incident and on Saturday charged the driver, a 36-year-old man from Kewdale with manslaughter and criminal damage or destruction of property.
He was denied bail and is due to appear before Perth Magistrates Court on Sunday.
A 43-year-old passenger of the car was uninjured in the crash.
The victim was visiting her daughter in Perth with her husband from Nepal.
On Saturday they launched a fundraiser in her honour.
“Our mother was a truly remarkable woman who was full of life, kindness, warmth, and unconditional love,” it read.
“She always put others before herself and lived her life with compassion and generosity.
“She was the heart and soul of our family, our greatest source of strength, comfort, and laughter.
“Her sudden passing has left an unimaginable void in our lives that words can hardly express.
“This tragedy has not only taken her from us far too soon, but it has also left our family facing overwhelming emotional, psychological, and financial hardship.”
Gurung’s daughter Srijana Gurung said she was seeking donations to help cover funeral expenses “and to help our family adjust to life without her love and presence” describing her passing as a time of “immense loss”.
