Travellers are facing flight delays and cancellations as a thick layer of fog blankets Sydney.
A Sydney Airport spokeswoman said on Wednesday morning that fog had descended onto the tarmac, resulting in “delays and cancellations across the network”.
“We will continue to monitor the weather conditions as the morning progresses,” she said.
“We advise passengers to check the status of their flight with the airline.”
According to the Sydney Airport website, a number of domestic flights to Melbourne, Canberra and Port Macquarie have been cancelled throughout the morning.
Qantas’ QF405 to Melbourne, QF1427 to Canberra, QF2160 to Port Macquarie, and QF425 to Melbourne have all been cancelled.
Jetstar flight 505 to Melbourne and an international Qantas flight to Christchurch, due to depart at 10am, have also been axed.
Motorists are also being urged to take extreme care, with the Bureau of Meteorology issuing an alert just after 4am on Wednesday warning Sydneysiders of treacherous conditions on most city roads.
“Reduced visibility in fog will make road conditions dangerous during Wednesday in all suburbs,” a spokesman said.
“Motorists are advised to take extreme care.”
People driving throughout the morning have been advised to check the Live Traffic NSW app to keep on top of road closures and conditions.
