Dre Greenlaw returns to San Francisco 49ers on one year deal Bryce Huff retirement

Linebacker Dre Greenlaw has returned to the San Francisco 49ers on a new contract while defensive end Bryce Huff has announced his retirement from the NFL.

According to ESPN, Greenlaw and the 49ers agreed to a one-year deal worth up to 7.5 million dollars on Thursday.

The move brings Greenlaw back to San Francisco after a short stint with the Denver Broncos. He signed a three-year contract with Denver worth 31.5 million dollars in March last year.

However, his season with the Broncos was disrupted by injuries.

Greenlaw missed nine games because of quad and hamstring issues and was also absent for one game due to a suspension following an argument with referee Brad Allen during a Week 7 game.

The Broncos released Greenlaw earlier this week.

Greenlaw originally joined the 49ers as a fifth round draft pick in 2019 and became a popular figure with fans because of his physical style of play.

He also faced several injuries, including a torn Achilles tendon suffered during Super Bowl LVIII.

While Greenlaw returns to strengthen the linebacker unit, the team will need to address another defensive gap following Bryce Huff’s retirement.

Huff, who turns 28 in April, announced his decision in a video posted on social media.
