According to the BBC, Silvestri was thankfully conscious when she was taken to hospital.
The Italian’s Laboral Kutxa team issued the following statement: “Debora Silvestri has suffered a fall on the Cipressa descent.
“She is conscious and on her way to the hospital to receive care.
“We will provide more information on her condition in the coming hours.”
According to Mundo Deportivo, the accident took place in the middle of the descent of the Cipressa, less than 20km to the end in a right turn.
A pileup took place that involved several cyclists, including Kasia Niewiadoma and Kim le Court.
That triggered an even bigger accident a few seconds later when cyclists coming from behind also collided.
It seems Silvestri, 27, didn’t have enough time to react and that led to her awful accident.
The commentators and fans watching from home were left worried as the cyclist didn’t move after her drop as the camera started to zoom out.
But the announcers swiftly confirmed that she was found to be conscious.
Lotte Kopecky went on to win the 156km women’s race and addressed the shocking accident after her victory.
Kopecky said: “I hope everyone is OK.”
