The progeny super show from one of the country’s most exciting and still blooming sirelines is on show again at Monday’s feature Newcastle meeting on the Beaumont track.

Autumn King, a three-year-old colt in the Paul Messara and Leah Gavranich stable at Scone, is hunting a second straight win this campaign when he tackles a Class 1 Handicap over 1200m.

Along with Leah Gavranich, Paul Messara will chase success in Newcastle on Monday.Vince Caligiuri

And having opened about $2.50 favourite in early betting, he’s set to add to the rapidly growing success story of The Autumn Sun.

After a stellar racing career that netted eight wins from nine starts, including five at Group 1 level, The Autumn Sun has turned sire star.

And it’s no seasonal surprise that heading into the core of autumn, the stars by The Autumn Sun are glowing over NSW racing like never before.

At Saturday’s bumper Rosehill meeting, the Autumn Sun bloodline carried leading jockey James McDonald into the history books as the country’s greatest Group 1 winner.

First, Autumn Boy blitzed his rivals in the Rosehill Guineas for the three-year-olds over 2000m before unbeaten four-year-old superstar mare Autumn Glow put her rivals to the sword in the George Ryder Stakes over 1500m.

Racing returns to the Beaumont track in Newcastle on Monday.

Autumn King was narrowly beaten twice at Scone and Newcastle last spring to start his career before spelling, then returned with a dominant maiden win at Muswellbrook as the hottest of favourites.

Bred to handle wet tracks as well as dry, Autumn King could well be locked in a two-horse battle with promising Siragusa ($4.40), which returns after an ultra-impressive debut win at Tamworth two months ago.

The Beaumont course is expected to race in heavy range, with intermittent rain forecast well into Monday.
