Sabrina Carpenter takes playful swipe at haters after Best Album win

Sabrina Carpenter had the last laugh after Best Album victory as she threw shade at her critics with a smile.

After winning her second VMA for her sixth album Short n’ Sweet, the Expresso hitmaker clapped back at her haters with a cheeky dig during her acceptance speech.

“I really don’t take for granted when you guys take the time out of your lives to listen to an album, and if I’m lucky enough that that is my album, I am so grateful,” she began her speech thanking the VMAs and expressing her appreciation to her fans for listening to her music.

“Whether that be Short n’ Sweet, this album, or whether that be Man’s Best Friend, my new album, or whether it be one of my 29 before that,” the Taste singer quipped, poking fun at the naysayers who trolled her for releasing music too frequently or suggest she’s oversaturating the market.

It’s a self-aware joke as she hasn’t released 29 albums but uses the exaggeration to highlight how often people comment on the quantity of her work.

“I’m just the luckiest girl in the world,” the Please Please Please chart topper added before addressing how often the world can be “full of criticism and discrimination.”

Combined with her later mention of the “negativity,” it’s clear she’s clapping back at the skeptics and reclaiming the narrative with humour and confidence.

After earning her first VMA in 2024, the Grammy winner at the 2025 MTV VMAs received eight nominations and won three awards.

Carpenter’s 2025 nominations and wins at the VMAs are a follows:

Best Pop Artist: Won

Best Album for Short n’ Sweet: Won

Best Visual Effects for Manchild: Won

Video of the Year for Manchild: Nominated

Best Pop for Manchild: Nominated

Best Direction for Manchild: Nominated
