A man in Melbourne’s inner west has been charged with serious drugs and firearms offences after police were forced to lock down a suburban street to arrest him.

Police attended an address in Hudsons Road, Spotswood before 9am on Friday to execute a search warrant as part of an investigation into firearm and drug trafficking.

Police have charged a 44-year-old Spotswood man with drugs and firearms offences.

When they arrived, Nathan Lack, 44, was uncooperative and allegedly armed with a firearm, police said. Officers negotiated with him for over an hour before he came out and surrendered to police at 10.20am.

He was arrested and police spent hours searching the home. Lack was later charged with offences including trafficking a commercial quantity of methylamphetamine, using a firearm in contravention of a firearm prohibition order and discharging a firearm at premises.

He has also been charged with dealing with property suspected of being proceeds of crime and several other drug possession offences.

In a brief court appearance on Saturday morning, Lack made no application for bail and was remanded in custody to face court again in August.

Police said they seized a firearm at the home, along with mobile phones, laptops, watches, OC spray and drugs including methylamphetamine and testosterone.

The arrest came after an investigation by the illicit firearms squad, which located a vehicle in Williamstown on May 31 that contained 13 kilograms of methylamphetamine. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information on drug or firearm trafficking is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online via www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
