Victoria Beckham touches upon parenting approach in new interview

Victoria Beckham has spoken about her family values and her disbelief in forcing her children’s careers, something that comes months after being called out by her own son Brooklyn Beckham.

The fashion designer broke her silence in a recent interview with Times, saying she doesn’t force her children’s career and wants them to feel “fulfilled” rather pressured—a response that contradicts her eldest son’s accusations as he called his parents “controlling”.

“There’s a big difference between supporting children with what they want to do and forcing them,” she said of her approach to being a mom to four, adding, “all we’ve ever done with any of the children is support them, help them and encourage them”.

Victoria, 52, also said she is “proud” that each of her children has found something they enjoy. “The three boys used to play football [soccer] and one by one they decided it wasn’t for them and that’s okay, whatever makes them happy,” the former Spice Girl said, adding, “’I just want them to feel fulfilled.”

Victoria also said her children are in a privileged position, which allows them to try out different opportunities. She said she encourages them to “dream big” and aim high.

Victoria and David’s eldest son, Brooklyn Beckham, 27, works as a culinary content creator and launched a hot sauce brand. Romeo Beckham, 23, works in modelling, while Cruz Beckham, 21, is pursuing music.

Victoria has made similar comments in earlier interviews. In another public statement, she called parenting of adult children especially different from raising younger ones.

“I think that it’s very different parenting adult children to parenting smaller children,” the star said on podcast Aspire with Emma Grede. “I’m just trying to do the best that I can”.

Victoria later added, “We don’t put any pressure on our kids, we just want them to do what they love and to work hard and to be happy.”

However, her comments come during ongoing tension within the family involving Brooklyn. Earlier this year, he publicly accused his parents of interfering in his relationship with his wife, Nicola Peltz, 31, and said he did not want to reconcile with them.

“I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life,” Brooklyn said in the January Instagram Stories posts.
