A woman has been charged over the alleged assault of a cafe worker – leaving her with a chipped tooth – in Melbourne on Anzac Day.

Anais Poupon, 19, was serving customers at La Valley cafe in Essendon when a passer-by allegedly slapped the plate into Ms Poupon’s teeth, before smacking them onto the ground.

In a statement, Victoria Police said a Footscray woman, 52, was arrested at Dandenong Railway Station about 10.50am on Saturday.

She was charged with recklessly causing injury and faced Melbourne Magistrates Court the following day.

The woman was bailed to appear at Broadmeadows’ Magistrates’ Court on August 17.

Ms Poupon was a French national on a working holiday who has only been in Australia for a few months.

She was left with a bloody mouth and a chipped tooth following the alleged attack.

The owners of La Vallee posted shocking CCTV footage of the alleged incident on social media at the time, saying they were “shocked at the abhorrent behaviour” of the woman.
