Garcelle Beauvais has opened up about the emotional toll of divorce.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star reportedly got divorced from Mike Nilon in order to protect her peace.
Admitting that ending her marriage in her 40s was never part of the plan, Garcelle said, “It’s a hard decision to get a divorce when you’re in your 40s.”
“Nobody signs up for that. That’s not something that was something that I wanted to do, but I had to do it because I had to pick me,” she added.
Furthermore, Garcelle said that remaining in the relationship would have changed “the very essence” of who she really was. She said, “I would be the anxious wife, ‘Where are you? Why are you late? Who’s on the phone?’”
“And I didn’t want to change that. I didn’t want to become that person, and I also didn’t want to raise my boys with that,” Garcelle added.
Garcelle Beauvais and Mike Nilon tied the knot in May 2001 and got divorced in 2011.
Previously, Garcelle revealed on RHOBH that she learned her husband had been cheating for years after finding text messages on his phone.
On the other hand, she also reflected on her decision to leave RHOBH after five seasons. She said, “When I sat on that reunion stage and looked around, I felt like I didn’t have any friends.”
Adding, “And if the show is based on friendships, I didn’t have any friends on that show anymore.”
“My spirit was no longer there. I couldn’t do it anymore,” Garcelle said.
