Hollywood legend Kevin Costner was spotted in the stands for the AFL in Brisbane on Friday night as the Lions beat Carlton.

The 71-year-old, famed for his roles in iconic films such as The Untouchables and Dances with Wolves, is currently shooting Honeymoon with Harry in Queensland alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Sarah Pidgeon.

But he took some time away from filming to head to The Gabba to watch the reigning AFL premiership winners claim a third victory on the bounce.

The Channel 7 cameras cut to the crowd during the third quarter, with commentator Brian Taylor quick to spot Costner.

Taylor said: “There’s Kevin Costner, bit of Hollywood royalty. Doesn’t get much bigger than Kevin Costner.”

Fellow commentator James Brayshaw then claimed someone had told him Gyllenhaal was also in attendance, but that was not confirmed.

Fans were quick to pour in with their reaction to Costner’s presence at the game as they joked about why he was there.

One said: “Should help come draft day.”

Another added: “He’ll be playing Micheal Voss in the Oscar winning documentary about the Blues 49 point comeback against the Lions.”

A third, referencing his performance in baseball film Field of Dreams, replied: “Someone told him there was a baseball game at the Gabba.”

While a fourth responded: “He’s only there to take snaps of the whiteboard.”

The Lions claimed a 100-89 win over Carlton to heap misery on the Blues as yet more doubt was cast over coach Michael Voss’ future.

Carlton have now lost eight of their nine games in 2026 — and suffered seven successive defeats.

Voss said: “I coach for building a culture, and hopefully by the time I leave here we’ve got winning behaviours, and understand clearly what that looks like.

“We clearly understand what that looks like when we meet them, and we clearly understand what that looks like when we don’t, and I coach to create an environment that enables that to happen.

“Often people will make it about your job, but the reality is I’ll make it about something else, and that’s what we’ve got to continue to reinforce within our own environment.”

By contrast, Brisbane’s run of three wins in a row moves them up to fourth in the ladder — and their record now stands at 6-3.
