Comedian Alex ‘Shooter’ Williamson has been stood down and deregistered by his Australian Rules football club over a “deeply sensitive” video he shared about the man accused of abducting and killing a five-year-old girl.
Jefferson Lewis was arrested on Saturday and later charged with the murder of Kumanjayi Little Baby, whose disappearance on Anzac Day sparked widespread searches around the Northern Territory’s Old Timers town camp.
The 47-year-old allegedly took five-year-old Kumanjayi Little Baby from her home on the outskirts of the outback town late in the evening on Anzac Day before allegedly killing her.
Mr Lewis was taken to Darwin under heavy police guard after his arrest as hundreds of people rioted in Alice Springs. His case was heard in court on Tuesday.
In the video Williamson posted, the comedian pretends to be in discussion with Jefferson Lewis, who was charged with the murder on Sunday, and asks him to “stay with me and my little girl” and “get on the gas.”
Williamson has since deleted the video from his social media feeds.
The Adelaide Advertiser reported Williamson has been suspended immediately by the Willunga Football Club, in South Australia’s Great Southern Football League.
The Willunga Football Club said in a statement on Monday: “We are aware of the deeply offensive social media content shared by an individual associated with our club.
“We want to be clear; the comments made are completely unacceptable and do not reflect the values of our club.
“We acknowledge the hurt and distress this has caused, particularly to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples and the broader community.
“The individual was stood down immediately, and following review, is no longer registered with the club.
“This outcome reflects the seriousness with which we have treated the matter.
“We are committed to maintaining a respectful and inclusive environment and will continue to take meaningful steps to ensure our standards are upheld.
“We sincerely apologise to those impacted and thank our community for raising their concerns.”
News.com.au has contacted Alex Williamson, Willunga Football Club and the Great Southern Football League for comment.
Williamson, 37, has built a large following for his lewd, expletive-filled stand-up routines and social media videos, but he has undergone a fall from grace in recent years.
In 2023, Williamson came under the spotlight after posting a series of videos about his ex-girlfriend and OnlyFans creator, Alex Moore.
The now-deleted posts included a number of confrontations he had filmed between himself and Moore, along with a series of serious allegations against her.
The comedian was embroiled in controversy in 2021 when he went on a foul-mouthed rant in which he furiously denied allegations of physical abuse and “predatory behaviour” from his famous ex-girlfriend.
In April 2021, Australian singer Peach PRC shared a lengthy public statement claiming Williamson was “abusive, manipulative and predatory” throughout their relationship.
