Jack Della Maddalena’s Perth homecoming ended in a nightmare as he was outclassed, bloodied and stopped by Brazilian Carlos Prates in the third round.

Both fighters landed telling blows in the opening five minutes, before Prates began to get on top of the crowd favourite in the second with savage knees and elbows.

At the end of the round he dropped Maddalena with a nasty left leg kick which sparked the beginning of the end.

And it was all over minutes later when Maddalena was dropped with yet another brutal kick.

Maddalena appeared reluctant to get back to his feet as Prates went in for the kill, hammering in blows until the referee stepped in to wave the contest off.

It is Prates’ third stoppage in a row to go with his impressive wins over Geoff Neal and Leon Edwards.

Meanwhile, Maddalena, who was on a 14-run winning streak prior to his loss to Islam Makhachev in November, now has back-to-back defeats.

More to follow.
