A Sydney teen faces seven charges after allegedly leading police on an e-bike chase.

On Friday evening, an officer attempted to stop the 17-year-old riding an illegal electric trail bike in the Northern Beaches.

Police allege the boy did not comply with the directions and “rode in a dangerous manner to evade police”.

He was arrested shortly after and charged with seven offences at Sutherland Police Station.

He was granted bail and will appear at a Children’s Court in less than two weeks to face multiple charges including reckless driving, evading police, riding without a license or helmet, and using an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.

The incident was part of a bigger, multi-agency crackdown under ‘Operation E-Voltage’ operating in the Sutherland Shire on Friday.

“The operation focused on disrupting and reducing the illegal and dangerous use of non-compliant e-bikes and associated anti-social behaviour, particularly among young people,” NSW Police said.

Four e-bikes have been seized and three other people arrested under the operation.

The crackdown has also resulted in less than 100 traffic notices and warnings, eight transport infringements, a dozen person searches and 11 move-on orders.

“Officers also focused on improving community safety through education and engagement,” according to NSW Police.
