Roar midfielder Sam Klein has declared his eventual intention to leave Brisbane but not before helping the Queenslanders finish a disappointing A-League campaign on a positive note.

Klein has been one of the Roar’s few shining lights in a season that has faded away to nothing after an encouraging start.

Ahead of Saturday’s clash against Melbourne City at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane is only ahead of cellar dwellers Western Sydney on the ladder.

“We know in the group that it’s not been good enough the last 10 weeks with the results,” Klein said.

“Some performances have been there but all in all, football is about winning, so our main goal for these last two games (of the season) is to get two wins starting this weekend in front of a home crowd who have been there for us all season.

“We want to reward them for their faith and how they’ve stuck by us in challenging times.”

Klein’s impressive individual season has included four goals and a host of powerful performances in Brisbane’s engine room.

“To score is the best feeling in football for me, so I love it every time I do it and I crave scoring more goals. I know it’s an area of my game that is good but I have to work on it as well,” he said.

“There have been opportunities which I haven’t tucked away, and that’s something in the coming years I have to improve in my game if I want to reach the next level.”

Despite being contracted to the Roar for another season, the 22-year-old Gympie product is likely to attract interest from elsewhere, which could lead to Brisbane selling him in the off-season.

“I would like to play overseas at one stage of my career, but right now I’m fully focused on Brisbane and ending the season positively,” Klein said.

“We’ll see what happens in the future, but it’s definitely something that’s a goal for me.”
