A murder suspect charged over the suspicious death of a young pregnant woman almost nine years ago has been identified.
NSW Police found 21-year-old Hayley McClenahan-Ernst unresponsive in a home on Derby Street, Kingswood in eastern Sydney about 12.15am on Sunday May 21, 2017.
She died at the scene.
Following extensive investigations, and public appeals NSW Police on Tuesday morning, arrested 30-year-old Max Spencer at a property in Bucca, north of Coffs Harbour.
He was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station and charged with murder.
He appeared before a NSW bail court on Tuesday where his matter was briefly mentioned.
Mr Spencer did not apply for bail and it was formally refused, and will remain in custody on remand until his next appearance in court on June 12.
Police said a 21-year-old man known to Hayley was charged at the time of her death with contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (DV) and was dealt with by the courts.
Hayley’s death was deemed suspicious, sparking extensive investigations under Strike Force Fielding.
Last year, a coronial inquest was suspended, and the matter was referred to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Detectives from the Nepean Police Command in October reviewed the matter and continued their inquiries, and issued a renewed public appeal.
