Nine Inch Nails and Boys Noize played their first full set as Nine Inch Noize at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 11.

The 45-minute performance marked a major step up from the shorter sets the duo previously tested during their “Peel It Back” tour.

They performed on the Sahara stage with remixed Nine Inch Nails songs. Trent Reznor and Mariqueen Maandig opened with a new version of Vessel, standing at the back of a tunnel-like stage. while dancers and elaborate visuals filled the stage.

Rather than performing original versions, they also changed songs like Closer, Copy of A and Me, I’m Not into more electronic versions. One standout moment came with Parasite, a track from Reznor and Maandig’s side project, How to Destroy Angels.

The set also teased their first album, HALO 38, as Nine Inch Noize, set for an April 17 release. The two groups have worked together before on Challengers and TRON: Ares.

The Coachella set comes amid changes within the Nine Inch Nails lineup, including drummer Ilan Rubin departing to join Foo Fighters, with Josh Freese moving in the opposite direction.

While Reznor previously hinted at a possible pause in live performances, he later clarified that the band has no immediate touring plans but has not ruled out future shows.
