A talented Canberra three-year-old that hasn’t quite lived up to his potential is set to burst back into the limelight at Monday’s feature Sapphire Coast meeting.
Lightly raced Go Commando in the Danielle Seib stable is part of a large and dominant team from the capital again heading to the far south coast.
In fact, Canberra gallopers are set to carry off the bulk of the prizemoney and continue the successful raids at southern NSW coastal venues.
Go Commando’s exciting career has almost been put on hold since an impressive debut win at Albury in early November.
That day, the son of 2004 Cox Plate winner Savabeel rushed home late to beat a very handy maiden field, before being narrowly beaten in a Class 1 at Orange at his only other start in 2025.
Given more time and education, Go Commando returned with a moderate run behind a dominant Class 1 winner at Goulburn before an improved effort in a Benchmark 58 at Wagga 16 days ago.
But since then, his work has been sharper, and with blinkers going on for the first time, he’s set to recapture that initial excitement when he tackles a handy BM 58 Handicap over 1200m to close the meeting.
With new jockey Shaun Guymer aboard, Go Commando opened better than $6.50 in early markets well behind Kembla-based Ciao Bella Mia around $4.60, and fellow Canberra visitors Shyamalan ($5.00) and Inchyra ($5.50), along with Victorian raider Bon’s Your Back.
Ironically, with so many Canberra runners on show, Go Commando is set to be the Seib stable’s only runner. Sacred Inferno, which had been accepted to run in the race prior, was preferred at Sunday’s Gundagai Cup meeting.
Earlier, in the headline BM 66 Handicap over 1005m, another Canberra visitor is primed to take her winning strike rate to 50 per cent from eight starts when she returns for her first run since late October.
Pleasurize, a four-year-old daughter of Winning Rupert in the Luke Pepper yard, has only been out the money once since a dominant debut win at Moruya more than a year ago.
She soon after capped a long and successful first campaign by winning at both BM 58 and Class 2 level before a well-earned break.
On a surface tracking start at good 4, Pleasurize was about $3.80 in early betting behind rival Canberra mare Christmas Star at $3.40.
