A man accused of involvement in a horror machete attack on New Year’s Eve in Melbourne has been warned he will not get any further adjournments in his case.
Kon Tong Gob, 20, appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday afternoon, covering his head with a jacket to avoid being photographed, two months after he was charged with serious offences relating to a brazen group attack in Carlton on December 31 last year.
Police allege Mr Gob, his co-accused Yahye Abas, 21, and a 17-year-old boy were involved in the incident on Lygon St, a popular restaurant strip, just before midnight that sent two men, aged 18 and 20, to hospital with serious injuries.
Each has been charged with violent disorder, affray and intentionally causing serious injury.
After a request from Mr Gob’s lawyer Alana Reader, magistrate Gerard Lethbridge agreed to adjourn the case for a month before warning this would be the “last time” the matter is adjourned.
“It’s not going to be further adjourned after that date,” he said.
Mr Abas, who also appeared in court on Tuesday, also received an adjournment after making an “offer” to prosecutors in the case.
The court was told prosecutors had requested four weeks to consider the offer.
Police have alleged the Lygon St incident was targeted and the groups involved were known to each other, with the offenders fleeing the scene in vehicles.
Two other men, a 19-year-old from Carlton and a 21-year-old from Reservoir, were arrested in January but released without charge.
Mr Gob and Mr Abas will return to court on May 6.
