A primary school-aged girl remains in a life-threatening condition after she was pulled from the water on the Gold Coast on Friday afternoon.
It was one of a series of incidents attended by Queensland Ambulance Service crews across the state at the start of the Easter long weekend.
A QAS spokesperson said five ambulances, including the High Acuity Response Unit, responded to reports of the near-drowning at Marine Parade in Labrador about 5.22pm on Friday.
The girl was treated at the scene and taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a life-threatening condition. A second patient, an adult woman, was taken to the same hospital in a stable condition.
At the same time – to the minute – in the Whitsundays, paramedics treated a woman in her 20s following a “marine envenomation” in water near Border Island at 5.22pm. The QAS spokesperson said the patient was stabilised and flown to Proserpine Hospital.
It was not clear on Saturday what had caused the bite or sting.
Paramedics also attended a single-vehicle crash early on Saturday on the Leichhardt Highway near Isla in central Queensland. The QAS spokesperson said a vehicle struck a tree about 2.42am.
Three people were taken to Theodore Hospital in stable conditions, while a fourth, an adult, was uninjured.
The patients included an adult man with lower leg injuries, and two primary school-aged girls, one with abdominal injuries and the other with head injuries.
