Retired golfer Jack Nicklaus is convinced Tiger Woods “needs some help” after the recent DUI arrest.
In a new interview, Nicklaus pointed to Woods’ history with injuries and pain management, noting that if he is taking medication, it is likely for a reason. His remark point to the two opioid pills that were found in Woods’ pocket after the March 27 rollover crash in Jupiter Island, Florida.
He suggested the situation may have escalated to a point where outside help is necessary. “Sometimes you get too far down the line, and you just need somebody to help you,” People cited Nicklaus, who further added that many in the golf community are behind Woods.
“I think he probably needs some help, and we all want to help him. We’re all on his side,” he concluded.
Fellow golf legend Nick Faldo also weighed in, urging the need for Woods’ to take accountability.
“There are two sides to this right now. There’s one side that’s like ‘well, let’s care for Tiger’, but then there’s got to be a responsibility and accountability side as well. This is a serious issue he’s done,” Sky Sports quoted Faldo, 68.
Woods faces charges including DUI, careless driving and refusal to submit to a urine test. Days after the incident, Woods announced he would be stepping away to seek treatment. A Florida judge has since granted him permission to travel abroad for treatment.
