A popular drink bottle sold at Kmart and Target has been urgently recalled after incidents where lids have ejected like projectiles, leaving customers at risk of serious injury.

The 2L stainless steel, top handle drink bottle, sold in colours of khaki and black, has a dangerous fault that causes the lid threading to shrink when exposed to hot liquids.

This shrinkage can cause the lid to violently eject from the bottle, posing a risk of lacerations from impact or burn injuries from hot liquids.

“Incidents have occurred,” a recall announcement made by the company states.

The recall affects bottles sold at discount retail giants Kmart and Target, with multiple product codes across both retailers.

The notice, published on productsafety.gov.au, warns customers not to use the bottles for hot liquids under any circumstances.

Shoppers who own one of these bottles have been recommended to stop using it immediately for hot liquids.

Customers are urged to return the product to their place of purchase for a full refund, regardless of whether they have a receipt.

Those who have gifted the bottle to someone else should contact the place of purchase to report it.

The recall is listed under PRA number 2026/20875 on the Australian product safety website.

For more information, visit productsafety.gov.au or contact Kmart or Target directly.
