Max Scherzer shines as Blue Jays beat Rockies with strong outing and late offensive surge

The Toronto Blue Jays secured a 5-1 win over the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, backed by a strong performance from Max Scherzer and timely hitting.

Scherzer (1-0) pitched six solid innings, allowing one run on four hits and one walk while striking out four.

Toronto’s bullpen, featuring Mason Fluharty, Braydon Fisher and Jeff Hoffman, followed with three scoreless innings to close out the game.

The Blue Jays took control in the fifth inning. Jesus Sanchez drove in a run with an RBI single before Vladimir Guerrero Jr. added another with a bases-loaded walk.

Toronto extended its lead in the seventh inning, with RBI singles from Kazuma Okamoto and Nathan Lukes.

Ernie Clement later added an insurance run with a double.

Colorado’s only run came in the sixth inning, when Hunter Goodman hit a solo home run. Starter Ryan Feltner struck out four over three innings before leaving the game after being hit by a comebacker.

Reliever Juan Mejia (0-1) allowed the decisive runs in the fifth, while Zach Agnos conceded additional runs later in the game.

The win improves Toronto’s record to 4-1 on the season, as the team continues its strong start.
