A luxury car showroom in Sydney’s west has been set ablaze in a suspected arson attack, with three electric cars destroyed by petrol.
Housing the sleek luxury Tesla’s in Parramatta’s Church St, police attended the showroom after reports that multiple cars were alight just after 3.20am on Tuesday.
Three Teslas and the surrounding showroom were significantly destroyed, with melted bonnets, destroyed engines and charred interiors to the three Model Y cars.
About 45 firefighters rushed to the scene to extinguish the blaze and clear the smoke, and remained there until about 4.45am.
“We dispatched a pretty heavy weight of attack on this fire,” Fire Rescue NSW spokesperson Aaron Ross told 9 News.
“It did extend into the ceiling space, but we were able to quickly contain the fire to the area of origin.”
No injuries were reported and police quickly ruled out that the flames were the result of a battery explosion.
Ongoing investigations revealed that the fire was an arson attack after jerry cans were discovered near the charred remains of the Teslas.
“It is quite obvious and just taking a quick look there that these fires have started at the front of some of these vehicles,” Mr Ross said.
Investigations are ongoing, with police combing through nearby CCTV.
