A teenager has been charged with terrorism-related offences.

The 16-year-old boy was arrested at a home in Sydney’s inner west by investigators attached to the NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team (JCTT) in December following “a report of an individual posting threats of extremist violence online”.

After seizing devices owned by the teenager, police allegedly found information “relating to extremist violence”.

“It will be alleged the young person held a mixed ideology and outlined plans for acts of violence,” police said.

On Tuesday, JCTT investigators slapped the 16-year-old with one count of collecting documents likely to facilitate a terrorist act, two counts of making documents likely to facilitate a terrorist act and two counts of possession of violent extremist material.

Police initially charged the boy with weapons offences in December last year after allegedly finding a gel blaster and a flick knife during the search of his home.

The teen will appear in a NSW Children’s Court on Wednesday.

The JCTT, comprised of NSW Police officers, Australian Federal Police officers, ASIO agents and representatives from the NSW Crime Commission, has encouraged the community to stay vigilant and keep an eye out for anything that resembles extremist activity.
