Two teenage boys died when the motorbike they were riding collided with a bus in Sydney’s west on Monday night.

Emergency services responded to reports of a crash involving a bus on the Liverpool Parramatta Transitway at Bossley Park about 7.10pm.

Police said the motorbike became trapped underneath the bus. The rider, a 15-year-old boy, and a passenger, a 14-year-old boy, were treated by paramedics, but both died at the scene.

The bus driver was uninjured and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

No passengers on the bus were injured.

The collision occurred on Liverpool to Parramatta Transitway adjacent to Wheller Street, about 100 metres from Restwell Road.

Police said the boys were riding a petrol trail bike.

However, a short time after the incident, Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone posted to social media suggesting the accident involved e-bikes.

Ronster, pictured in his black helmet and red goggles, said the rideout was unintentional and happened organically.

“This is what happens when the NSW state government ignores repeated requests for action on e-bikes on the T-Way,” he wrote.

“My thoughts and prayers are with those who were hurt, and I sincerely hope they are OK.

“Chris Minns, enough of the media releases. It is time for action. Do your job, direct police to act, and respond to the repeated calls our community has been making before someone is seriously injured or worse.”

The comments follow months of controversy over the use of e-bikes on Sydney roads.

Carbone has been a vocal critic of the state government’s handling of e-bikes on roads. He has previously posted videos to social media of young people riding e-bikes and e-scooters in what he has described as a “reckless” fashion in his area.

The NSW government is considering imposing age and other limits on the use of e-bikes as part of a bid to crack down on unruly behaviour.

Police have asked for witnesses to come forward following Monday’s incident. Anyone with dashcam footage or CCTV should contact Fairfield City Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
