Lindian Resources has ticked off another key milestone at its Kangankunde rare earths project in Malawi, East Africa, with its Tipume accommodation camp now officially open and operational.

The completion of permanent on‑site accommodation clears a key logistical hurdle for the project, allowing for a continuous workforce to support construction across multiple work fronts as Kangankunde moves deeper into the build phase.

Initial accommodation units are already occupied, with 65 rooms complete and ready to support the growing number of site workers. Lindian has also finished the first wave of permanent mobilisation, with 38 staff now based at the camp to establish a full operational presence on site.

The timing is no accident. Lindian’s engineering, procurement and construction contractor Obsideo is preparing to ramp up process plant construction, with its personnel set to progressively move into the camp as activity intensifies.

‘With key infrastructure now in place, we are well positioned to accelerate development and maintain our pathway to first production’

Lindian Resources executive director Zac Komur

The remaining camp infrastructure is on track for completion by mid-April, lifting total capacity to 90 personnel and enabling a broader construction workforce to be deployed.

Lindian Resources executive director Zac Komur said: “The Tipume Camp becoming operational ahead of schedule is a clear demonstration of execution discipline and delivery momentum at Kangankunde. Establishing a permanent workforce on site enables us to increase activity across multiple fronts while maintaining control over schedule and delivery.

The camp milestone has been delivered alongside a strong safety record, with more than 500,000 lost-time injury-free hours achieved across Kangankunde. Around 740 people are currently active on site, spanning construction, early works and supporting functions.

With permanent accommodation now in place, Lindian says a major de-risking step has been taken. The project is transitioning from early works into full construction mode, underpinned by non-process infrastructure that supports sustained operations, tighter coordination, and schedule control.

With beds made, boots on the ground and construction momentum building, Lindian is steadily converting plans into progress at Kangankunde as its march toward first rare earths production gathers pace.
