Detectives are investigating a fatal stabbing after a 39-year-old man was found dead in a carpark in Brisbane’s south on Monday night, with police now charging a man with murder.
The man was found dead in a carpark on Chambers Flat Rd at Waterford West about 6.35pm on Monday
As part of their investigation, detectives also declared a second crime scene at a Logan Reserve residence while they work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
Hanif Ullah, a worker from a nearby Cheesecake Shop, was alerted to the scene by an employee on Monday night and reportedly performed CPR on the man.
“My employee told me to come and help,” Mr Ullah told the Courier Mail.
“There was a lady, I think she was crying … and she said I need your help.
“I saw a body, he was laying down on the floor, and did CPR for 10 to 15 minutes.”
The man died at the scene.
Mr Ullah said he was feeling shocked about what happened.
“It is shocking, awful, especially in this area like I haven’t seen anything like this before, it was a first time experience.”
Speaking to media on Tuesday afternoon, Acting Logan District Officer Chief Superintendent Peter Miles said investigations revealed the man had suffered a single stab wound.
He said a 33-year-old man was located by police about 2.15am on Tuesday morning.
“That person of interest has now been charged with the murder of a 39-year-old male from Logan Reserve,” Superintendent Mile said.
“We don’t believe it was a random attack. We believe that they are known to each other, that there is no further risk to any members of the community.”
Police said witnesses had come forward who were familiar with both men and that the pair were aware of each other and had “mutual friends” who “move in each other’s circles”.
Investigators believe the stabbing occurred at the Logan Reserve home, where the accused lived, after the victim arrived at the address with two associates.
“They were there to remove some property, as in lawfully remove property,” Superintendent Miles said.
Police believe the injured man was then driven away from the property by associates before ending up at the Waterford West location where he was found.
“They left that address with him injured in another vehicle.”
Superintendent Miles said the man charged was not involved in driving the victim from the property.
Detectives have established multiple crime scenes as they piece together what unfolded, including two addresses and three vehicles which are being examined by forensic officers at Logan Central Police Station.
The alleged murder weapon has not yet been located and police are continuing to search for it.
Superintendent Miles said the accused man had not been cooperating with detectives.
Anyone with information that may assist investigators is urged to contact police.
The discovery coincided with a shocking incident in which a 34-year-old man was found with critical injuries after being stabbed multiple times at a Gold Coast residence.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 54-year-old man has been charged with one count of murder, classified as a domestic violence offence.
