Gateway Mining has unveiled a significant new gold exploration corridor stretching 15 kilometres across its Glenburgh South project in Western Australia’s Gascoyne region, putting the Perth-based explorer squarely in the shadow of a proven gold system.
Recent geophysical work has revealed the structural footprint of a potentially large-scale gold-bearing system. The newly mapped trend closely mirrors the geology that hosts Benz Mining’s neighbouring 500,000-ounce Glenburgh gold deposit.
High-resolution airborne magnetics have mapped a continuous structural corridor across Gateway’s ground in the same stratigraphic position as the gold-hosting trend at Benz’s deposit, which already holds 16.3 million tonnes at 1.0g/t gold.
Benz is now drilling hard to turn the system into a multi-million-ounce, Tropicana-style discovery.

The new magnetic data have also revealed a complex structural setting characterised by multiple phases of folding and several second-order structures, which are commonly favourable traps for gold mineralisation.
According to the company, the key trend follows the margin of a folded gneissic sequence interpreted from the magnetic survey, with the structure running parallel to the major shear zone associated with the Benz deposit.
Gateway Mining executive chairman Andrew Bray said: “The completion of this high-resolution magnetic survey at Glenburgh South has confirmed what is emerging as a very promising extension of the prospective stratigraphy that hosts Benz Mining’s highly impressive Glenburgh Gold Deposit.”
Adding weight to the target, hyperspectral analysis by the consultancy firm EarthDaily has identified elongate kaolinite-dominated alteration anomalies along the same 15km corridor.
Notably, the spectral signatures closely match alteration patterns recognised above Benz’s Glenburgh deposits, suggesting similar mineralising processes may be at play.
Gateway says previous geological mapping and geochemical sampling in the area have already confirmed gold anomalism close to the main structural trend, although much of the 15km-long corridor remains largely untested.
The company believes the area could host multiple exploration targets beyond the primary corridor, based on magnetic imagery that revealed several secondary structural trends and a major fold hinge within the project area.
Such features are often prime locations for gold deposition, particularly in structurally complex terrains.
The Glenburgh South project sits within the ancient Gascoyne Complex at the core of WA’s Capricorn Orogen, formed when the Pilbara and Yilgarn cratons collided many millions of years ago in a major mountain-building event. Gold occurs within sheared and silica-rich gneissic units, where high-grade metamorphism has recrystallised the metal – a process that can improve gravity recovery during processing.
Significantly, the project sits in a high-grade metamorphic terrane with strong similarities to the world-class Tropicana gold discovery. Interestingly, that 5.4-million-ounce behemoth was the first major gold deposit uncovered in a package of Archaean gneissic rocks previously considered geologically unfavourable for hosting gold.
Despite its favourable geology, the ground inland from the Carnarvon–Gascoyne region – home to Gateway’s Glenburgh South project – remains relatively underexplored compared with Western Australia’s more established gold provinces. Historic exploration by Normandy Mining in the early 1990’s confirmed the gold potential of the area, identifying a series of significant gold anomalies from regional stream sediment sampling. Since then, the area has remained relatively unloved.
Gateway says it plans to immediately follow up on the latest find with project-wide soil sampling to trace mineralised trends, supported by detailed geological mapping and rock-chip sampling.
With a 15-kilometre structural corridor now mapped and geological clues stacking up in all the right places, Gateway appears to have uncovered the early framework of what could be a much larger gold system. If upcoming soil sampling lights up along the trend as expected, the company may not have to wait long before turning geophysical theory into drill-ready targets.
For now, the ground remains largely untouched, but with a proven gold system next door and a Tropicana-style geological setting beneath its feet, Gateway’s Glenburgh South project is shaping as one of the more intriguing new exploration plays emerging from WA’s underexplored Gascoyne region.
