The University of NSW’s 82,000 students will have full digital access to The Sydney Morning Herald after the university signed a premium subscription licensing deal with Nine Publishing.

Campus Access is a Nine Publishing initiative designed to make quality, independent journalism accessible to younger readers. It will launch to University of NSW students and staff as part of O-Week at the Kensington campus from February 9 to 13.

The Campus Access program launches at UNSW as part of O-Week.

The University of NSW has joined a growing number of NSW and Victorian institutions partnering with Nine Publishing on Campus Access. The digital subscription allows students and staff to download the news and Good Food apps, browse Today’s Paper, and stay up to date with the latest coverage of news, politics, business, world news, travel and culture.

Luke McIlveen, executive editor of Nine’s metro mastheads, said the Campus Access partnership with the University of NSW would ensure The Sydney Morning Herald’s trusted, award-winning journalism would be available to the leaders of the future.

“In a world awash with unverified user-generated news and misinformation, it’s never been more important for young readers to engage with our journalism,” McIlveen said.

UNSW vice chancellor and president Professor Attila Brungs said: “We’re delighted to offer our thousands of students and staff access to the Herald’s news coverage.

“This is a great opportunity for our community to easily engage with credible news, diversify their news perspectives and encourage engagement on the issues that matter. This supports UNSW’s commitment to progress for all. It’s a fantastic resource that will enrich learning and student experience across the university.”
