Nine News’ Sydney weather presenter Amber Sherlock is among a number of on-air talent expected to leave the broadcaster as part of a round of redundancies announced on Monday.
The broadcaster’s Adelaide newsreader Kate Collins, Brisbane sports presenter Jonathan Uptin and Newcastle newsreader Gavin Morris make up the list of senior on-air talent told their roles are being made redundant.
Nine’s Sydney weather presenter Amber Sherlock is expected to leave as part of a redundancy round.
Nine declined to confirm any of the individual departures, but a source with knowledge of the exits not authorised to speak publicly said some were redundancies and some were contracts that were not renewed.
Amanda Laing, Nine’s new streaming and broadcast boss, informed staff of the 50 proposed cuts on Monday morning, part of an ongoing efficiency drive as the company further integrates its different assets, including Channel Nine, digital streaming platform 9Now and Stan.
Sherlock made headlines in 2017 over off-air remarks toward a colleague who was also wearing a white jacket during a segment, while their guest was also wearing a white jacket. Sherlock demanded her colleague change into a different colour jacket. The remarks were made during an ad break and the footage was leaked to media by a Nine staffer.

The 50 proposed roles to be cut make up a small fraction of the near 2900 staff across the entire division. Some new roles are being created, meaning the total number of departures could be fewer than 50.
Nine owns The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age. The redundancies apply only to the streaming and broadcast division. The publishing division cut 85 roles in 2024, which contributed to a five-day strike over pay conditions.
On Monday, a Nine spokesperson said the cuts are designed to reduce duplication and drive greater collaboration across Stan, Channel 9 and 9Now while also working to offset a tough advertising market.
Consultation with staff is ongoing as of Tuesday afternoon, a spokesperson for Nine said.
