A promising country-based filly with just a debut win under the belt is primed to catapult herself into the heart of spring at Thursday’s Hawkesbury meeting.

Nepo Baby, a freewheeling three-year-old in the Annabel and Rob Archibald satellite stable at Scone, tackles a Fillies and Mares Benchmark 64 Hcp over 1100m.

A daughter of Irish stallion Lucky Vega, Nepo Baby announced herself at home 24 days ago with a dominant front-running maiden win on debut over the same trip.

It was the performance of a filly destined for much bigger targets, comfortably running a faster final 600m than BM 58 and Class 3 Plate winners that day, despite cruising home by more than two lengths.

And the form behind her has already stacked up, with most running bold races the next start, especially fourth-placed Miss Fleetwood who then bolted in her maiden at Nowra last Sunday.

Nepo Baby could well be part of a big day for the Archibald camp, with naturally most of their runners coming out of the main Warwick Farm base.

To be ridden by 2kg claiming apprentice Molly Fitzgerald, she is a daughter of powerhouse sprinter Lucky Vega who won the 2020 Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at Curragh in Ireland before finishing his lightly raced career with a second placing in the Group 1 St James’s Palace over a mile at Royal Ascot in 2021.

Being out of a Written Tycoon mare, Nepo Baby is bred for high speed on both sides, and will likely head to a mid-week metropolitan race, or even Saturday Highway if she takes care of the opposition at Hawkesbury.
