Senator Jim Molan retweeted: “Young Muslims”, “Somalians” belong in cells

The New Daily has reported that newly appointed Liberal Senator Jim Molan, a former Major General in the Australian Defence Force, retweeted a post on Twitter on May the 4th, 2017:

“Exam. I was asked to name two things commonly found in cells. Apparently ‘young Muslims’ and ‘Somalians’ were not the correct answers.”

He had previously earned ire for sharing two videos from far-right extremist organisation Britain First, to which he had declared he was neither racist nor Islamophobic, but would close his social media accounts. He had also retweeted articles from Barenaked Islam discussing “third World Muslim invaders”.

He has further been criticised today in the Senate, with Richard di Natale accusing him of Islamophobia and racism.
